The programme for the non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in the Nordic and Baltic countries is open for calls as of February 1. It aims to improve cooperation between Nordic and Baltic NGOs, strengthen civil society and assist in implementing new sustainable initiatives. The Nordic countries are supporting NGO initiatives because they hold a view that a strong cooperation between NGOs in the Baltic Sea Region can raise the level of prosperity in the region and strengthen democratic values in society.

Eligible forms of project activities are:

    • Network activities, such as seminars and workshops with the aim to strengthen cooperation within the priority areas of the programme.
    • Study visits for exchange of experience.
    • Trainings, societal education projects.
    • Research projects

At least three NGOs must be involved in a project for it to be eligible for funding – 2 different Nordic and 1 Baltic country or, alternatively, 1 Nordic and 2 different Baltic countries.

2 different Nordic and 1 Baltic country or, alternatively, 1 Nordic and 2 different Baltic countries.

To fulfill Our Vision 2030, The Nordic Council of Ministers has established a set of strategic priorities. This means that all undertakings should fulfil at least one of the following priorities:

    • A green region – together, we will promote a green transition of our societies and work towards carbon neutrality and a sustainable circular and bio-based economy.
    • A competitive region – together, we will promote green growth in the region based on knowledge, innovation, mobility, and digital integration.
    • A socially sustainable region – together, we will promote an inclusive, equal, and interconnected region with shared values and strengthened cultural exchange and welfare.

In 2023, 7 applications were supported for a total of 84,536 €. Beneficiaries: the Rēzekne branch of the association ”Centrs MARTA”, the development platform for youth “YOU+”, the society for transparency “Delna”, the Straupe market (Slow Food Straupe), the organisation “35 above” and the organisation “Laiks jauniešiem”.

All supported projects promote transnational exchange of experience in a wide range of areas: improving and strengthening cooperation between social service providers and the police in the Baltic and Nordic countries; exploring the One Stop Shop method and its application in Latvia; developing innovative solutions to improve the quality and availability of public data to prevent corruption; promoting biodiversity and sustainable development of small farms; and promoting volunteerism in Latvia.

The electronic application is submitted and work with project partners is conducted in English.

    Deadline for applications: March 15.

More information on the content of the programme can be found here (in English).
